To connect the MPI®-2 to a snowmobile equipped with a SDI or a V1004 engine

1. Remove the diagnostic connector from the protective cap fixed to the vehicle.
2. Connect one end of the Diagnostic Cable to the diagnostic connector of the vehicle.
3. Connect the other end of the Diagnostic Cable to the MPI-2 Interface. For safe contact in the connectors, we strongly recommend you to use thumb screws on the DB9 connector to allow for locking the connector to its mating half.
4. Connect the MPI-2 Interface to USB port of your computer.
5. Launch B.U.D.S. and make sure that it detects the MPI.
6. Choose KW2000 protocol.
7. Insert a DESS® key or a DIAGNOSTIC key on the DESS post of the vehicle.
8. While the engine cut-out switch is depressed, power-up the vehicle by momentarily pressing the vehicle's start button.

When you start a diagnostic session and plan to program a DESS key, use a DIAGNOSTIC key on the vehicle DESS post and keep the DESS key you want to program to insert it on the DESS Post Interface when requested by B.U.D.S..

Notes

Always reconnect the diagnostic connector to the protective cap when you are done.

Once the vehicle is powered-up, the computer has approximately 30 seconds to initiate communication with the vehicle.  If the computer did not detect the module within this delay, then momentarily press the vehicle's start button again.

On those snowmobiles, it is not possible to communicate through the DESS post of the vehicle.
