To connect the MPI®-2 to a snowmobile MPEM through its DESS® post (MY 2002 and former)

1. Connect the MPI-2 Interface and DESS Post Interface between themselves. For safe contact in the connectors, we strongly recommend you to use thumb screws on the DB9 connector to allow for locking the connector to its mating half.
2. Connect one end (6-pin connector) of the DESS® adapter to DESS Post Interface.
3. Connect the MPI-2 Interface to USB port of your computer.
4. Launch B.U.D.S. and make sure that it detects the MPI.
5. Choose DESS protocol.
6. Connect the other end of the DESS adapter to the DESS post of the vehicle.
3. Start the engine or provide DC power to the MPEM before starting communication with the module.

To connect the MPI to a snowmobile MPEM through its diagnostic connector (MY 2003 and above)

1. Remove the diagnostic connector from the protective cap fixed to the vehicle.
2. Connect the MPI-2 Interface and DESS Post Interface between themselves.
3. Connect the DESS Post Interface to the diagnostic connector of the vehicle harness.
You may have to use a Supply T-harness cable.
4. Connect the MPI-2 Interface to USB port of your computer.
5. Launch B.U.D.S. and make sure that it detects the MPI.
6. Choose DESS protocol.
7. Insert a DIAGNOSTIC key on the DESS post of the vehicle only if you need to start the engine during your diagnostic session.
8. Start the engine or provide DC power to the MPEM before starting communication with the module.

Note

Make sure no DESS key has been read by the MPEM before attempting to communicate with it otherwise it will refuse to respond to any diagnostic command.
