Providing Power to a Snowmobile MPEM

Description

Depending on the snowmobile model, it might be required to provide power to the MPEM to allow B.U.D.S. to communicate with it.  This can be done by using the vehicle's battery, an external battery or by starting the engine.  Consult the vehicle's shop manual to find the appropriate power connection scheme.

With the vehicle's battery

To provide power to the MPEM using the vehicle's battery, use one of the following accessories:

_bm0a bypass wire (529 033 300) connected to the vehicle harness
_bm0a bypass wire (681 780 600) connected to the vehicle harness

With an external battery

To provide power to the MPEM using an external battery, use one of the following accessories:

_bm0a 9V adapter (529 035 675) connected to the MPEM
_bm0a 9V adapter (529 035 675) connected to the vehicle harness
_bm0a 9V adapter (529 035 675) along with a 3-position to 4-position adaptation cable
_bm0a 9V adapter (529 035 675) along with a 3-position to 6-position adaptation cable
_bm0a supply cable (529 035 869) along with a 9V adapter (529 035 675)
_bm0a supply cable (529 035 869) along with a 12V battery

Notes

When the MPEM is powered by an external battery, it is not possible to start the engine.  Battery power has to be removed first.

To prevent irreparable damages to AC MPEM's, never supply them with more than 9 volts DC.  AC MPEM's are those used along with 220W or 290W magneto.

With engine running

While the engine is running, communication with the MPEM is allowed only when the engine speed is between 1000 and 3000 RPM.
