Description

The MPI has three different power sources:

Source

 Description

Internal batteries

Four AA batteries located in the back of the MPI.

External power supply

Adapter that connects into a domestic power outlet.

Vehicle accessory supply

Power coming from vehicle accessory supply when using the 6-pin adapter.

To select the power source

The MPI automatically selects its power source in the following sequence:

1.Highest voltage source between external power supply or vehicle accessory supply.
2.Internal batteries.

Notes

If none of the above power sources is available, then the MPI won't work and B.U.D.S. will consider that the MPI is not present.

The MPI has no power switch.  It is automatically turned on and off by B.U.D.S..  However, you can manually reset the MPI.
